DVLA private number plates

Out of the thousands of registration plates issued by the DVLA on vehicles each year, some of them will become private number plates. Certain distinctive and appealing registrations are held back each year, and sold separately at auction by the DVLA, for private registrations, as they will raise more money.

Once the registration plate has been purchased, it is important that the numbers must be correctly displayed in accordance with the regulations governing the design, manufacture and display of vehicle registration plates, as set down by the DVLA.

It is an offence to wrongly space or misrepresent registrations on DVLA private number plates, or to corrupt numbers to appear as letters or vice versa.
