Personalised registration plates

Private registration plates are made up by an arrangement of numbers and letters that means something in particular to the owner. The DVLA withhold certain number plates for select issue, and these are either sold at auction, or through registered dealers, such as Car Marks. The new format registrations mean that many of the personalised plates are now making two words instead of one.

It is also possible to transfer assigned personalised reg plates from one vehicle to another. The registered keeper of the vehicle is entitled to transfer his number plate, and must pay a fee of £80 to the DVLA.
